Resort Colony Hestia

The Moon of Hestia is a small temperate Mediterranean rain-forest world orbiting a large colorful swirling Mineral Giant called Nikka-06. The system’s star is Shiner-04, a medium yellow star. The planet’s main fauna is composed of small tree-clinging avians, and bovine-like marsupial grazers.
Initial Development
The Moon was initially discovered by Drone relay teams. Which emerged out of the Frontier-HUMINT exploration program commissioned by the Co-Op for habitable / resource rich systems. Shiner’s Extra-Solar Satellite Wiggy-Wiggy reported back to Earth, with bidding immediately starting in New York.
The system rights was purchased for $3.8 billion by McDonalds, Disney, Atari, Texaco Investment Consortium, a temporary union for mutual profit partnership which was a common practice 30 years ago. The colony was initially developed as a Platinum group REO (Resource Extraction Operation) which would after 3 stable quarters pay off the initial investment. But the main goal was for it to become a resort, amusement park, and retirement community for both corporate agents and the general public.
Full-Scale Development
The first stage was the establishment of an orbital Processing station (Tito) on Nikka-06 which would be operated by a drone mining team and supervised by a reserve engineering crew. Again initial investments paid off handsomely, sending the material back via the I.P.I.G. (Interstellar Postal Index Guild) and making above quota profits from selling the materials back to the I.S.G. (Interstellar Shipbuilders Guild).
The second stage continued on optimistically sending in engineers, and debtors to zone out and construct the resort community. Initial engineers were offered permanent positions with most accepting and bringing their families on the initial migration wave from Earth and Elysium, While the debtor gangs were sold back to the Co-Op for cheap. The resort colony became well known for two things, being the most beautiful colony in the galaxy, and being essentially what Walt Disney dreamed of as “EPCOT”. This large planned community flourished with most permanent residents being employees to the subsidiary of a subsidiary to the investment consortium.
Following the war between the colonies of Mejia and Athens, the I.P.I.G. had difficulty transporting people or goods through that portion of space which led to Hestia. As the two colonies engaged in a regional system war. The USA and USSR began a Great Game, this caused a Tariff war which completely cut off transportation to Shiner-04, stranding the off-season tourists and permanent residents.
So like many others, Hestia became a victim of Time-Dilation with the only other ships which would re-discover it would be almost 200 years later (around 15 years later SOL time).
Anthropological-Speciation
Initially the settlements broke down into looting, and was restored by a Security Chief dictator. But that order broke down, leading to familial warlords who became feudal landlords, that order gradually became a tribal process of familial clans interconnected around a “Patron God”. Often a mascot character or unique misinterpretation or “Cargo-Cultification” of a character or a personified concept.
Like many luxury colonies the operation was entirely automated by smart systems created by Atari, so the Capital of Hestia was fully operational being revered by the tribals as a sacred divine palace. misinterpreting that the AA (Autonomous Algorithm) which runs the capital as a God. The Tribals lived off the land in the jungles, coasts, and forests of Hestia integrating with the local fauna which easily became domesticated to serve a role similar to sheep. The capital lacked food and was under disrepair due to it being abandoned almost 200 years ago.
Socially Hestia is under the control of what anthropologists refer to as a “Backseat Driver” which entails that an orbital community which retains its technological process and (usually) has an archive of the Encyclopedia Alexandria continues on commonly developing ritual hoarding of information, the Processing Station Tito was no different. Its reserve crew of engineers soon became desperate for food, water, and women and began to trick and exploit the tribals of Hestia, creating a monastic fraternity who would give secrets and talk to the gods (troubleshoot AAs). Soon they began believing their own lies due to bringing in hazed men from Hestia, the Secret Society on Tito essentially was a monastic temple worshiping a synchronization of Catholicism, and cargo-cult animism developed the gravity side. Similar to the Cuban Abakuá the group existed inside and outside of Hestia, mainly having “branch locations” in the capital tricking the AA with corporate language and Jerry-rigging its processing networks.
Tribal Communities
There are 4 socio-cultural tribal groups in Shiner-04. 1. The Mickies, The Fuppies, The Bobos and The Titos.
1. The Mickies Tribe – The Mickies are a collection of smaller clans who congregate to the capital every solstice to sing hymns. The tribe was initially McDonalds employees (food operators made up 12% of permanent employees) who fled from the capital after the looting to form a commune. This commune collapsed and each clan which emerged from it became their own isolated village culture for a while.
But as soon as famine and unseasonable typhoons hit the South Eastern portion of Hestia (where the clans migrated) they united around a religious merit based tribal culture. The Mickies worship Col. Rikki Boy (Ronald McDonald) a homogenization of father-like food mascots for various chains on Hestia.
The Col. Is their “sky-father” while various other house gods represent specific clans with a designated reject of the clan to become their Mascot. A universal trait among the Hestian Tribes, a stylized individual who denounces their original identity to operate the body of a house god for the tribe.
2. The Fuppies Tribe – The Fuppies are a large familial clan who has brought many other smaller clans into its fold. The tribe is ruled by a married couple of elders, who serve as the spiritual and social grandmother and father of the entire tribe. The tribe lives in the west, worshiping ancestor spirits which take the form of food and kitschy Earthling mascots.
The tribe rarely visits the capital, viewing it as a sacred graveyard and where ghosts haunt, believing that ghosts bring disease and take the form of black vapor (a common side effect of improper ventilation systems, ashy or polluted mist spray systems). The Fuppies are an egalitarian but deeply insular cultural group, only allowing outsiders to trade jewelry or to exchange gift brides / grooms for alliances.
3. The Bobos Tribe – The Bobos are a far northern tribe which inhabit the unsettled northern part of the moon, mainly congregating around or on the pole of the moon. The tribe is primarily interested in ritualized games and raiding its neighbors. The Bobos are led by a figure they call, The Muma'Bapa, a “strongman” religious, cultural, and political figure which emerges from rigorous competitions.
The Bobos are utilitarians sharing their resources freely, but taking slaves and valuables from outsiders. The Bobos do not raise their children, instead give birth freely and have “Aunties” wean babies until prepubescent where they essentially form gangs which are forced to compete in competitions of their own. Anyone can become the Muma'Bapa; they merely need to out compete others for the title, or beat the current holder in various tests of might, intelligence, cunning, and morality.
The Bobos don’t regard their neighbors as people, thinking of them as people whose bodies are inhabited by dancing spirits which is why they worship gods and spirits rather than the Muma’Bapa, the “G.O.A.T.” so to say.
4. The Titos Tribe – The Titos are the native inhabitants of the Space Station Titos. The station is located in between the moon Hestia and the planet Nikka. The tribe has transformed the processing station into a monastery, where the tribal fraternity worships and studies the Encyclopedia Alexandria.
The group is led by the Foreman, an entirely masked figure who guards the Info-terminal where the encyclopedia is stored, the Foreman is the elected spiritual leader of the monastery who is the “head of state” so to say. While his equal is the Quarter-Master, the person who runs the day-to-day operations and maintains the Ships. The space station travels from Hestia to Tito with 6 revolving orbital planes which are fanatically kept up to snuff repaired by beautiful embroidered palladium reinforcements.
The drones which collect and mine the palladium (and other basic materials) on Nikka have been carrying out their orders for the past 200+ years. Rather than transport the goods to the I.S.G., the monks utilize the material as a gold or silver alternative, using it as jewelry and introducing its value to the tribals of Hestia who use the material as their primary form of currency. Initially the engineers on Tito began to manipulate Hestian inhabitants during their time of need exchanging a “protection racket” with them still having access to their guns and print shops to manufacture palladium bullets, controlling the tribals.
But soon it became an equal process with the Tito monks exchanging secrets and palladium with the tribals and the tribals would give them gift brides, apprentices, food, and water. The order is happy and content with this system, as most tribals desperately want to become Tito monks. The Tito’s main way they receive and influence Hestia is via their presence in the capital. White cloaked monks wander the tourist resort repairing important parts and the AA and its holograms while keeping other parts of the resort broken.
Re-Contact
The I.P.I.G. expeditionary force rediscovered Shiner-06 about 20 years ago, and almost 200 years after its isolation from HUMINT space. The expeditionary force gave the system to the sole survivor of the Investment Consortium which was The McAri Concern (Unification of McDonalds, Fibber-Flip, Mr. Cookie Company, and Atari).
The McAri were ecstatic at learning a cargo cult had formed over their products, which had become a recent marketing push to cultivate a worshipful consumer base. McAri reopened the capital, first diplomatically talking with the Tito about supervising the operation, but eventually used their Informatic Marines to infiltrate and genocide the Tito tribe, leaving only those who accepted McAri’s deal in the Capital. Those who sided with them were brought on as regional executives, given the reins to re-develop the resort city to the moon’s unique cultural tradition (similarly to a “Tiki” aesthetic but for the unique culture of Hestia).
The Mickies tribe was legally adopted by McAri, with key figures from the tribe being brought to Earth to live and work in the McAri business arcology in Colorado. The strange cargo cult fanatically worships McAri, believing Earth to be their heaven wonderland (ironically not too far off given how nice Earth is). The Tribe of Mickies has become 83.4% of the corporate employees of McAri, as the Concern has become a private conglomerate again with its leadership being the tribal Elders brought in from Hestia. The Concern and its subsidiaries are doing swimmingly, with McAri being the 4th largest Concern neck and neck with The Alphabet Concern, and with the C.E.O. (Mack Vesa-Quarter) of McAri being close personal friends with the C.E.O. (Juicy McElroy) of the largest concern, Fun-Love.
